SAE 1015 Round Bar and Rod is a low carbon steel that mainly consists of around 0.15% carbon, together with manganese (around 0.60-0.90%), phosphorus (up to 0.04%), and sulfur (up to 0.05%). This composition offers excellent ductility and weldability with moderate strength. Mechanically, SAE 1015 has tensile strength in the range of 410-550 MPa and yield strength of about 275 MPa, with elongation being about 20%. SAE 1015 is easy to machine and can be heat treated and cold formed and so it is a general-purpose material for manufacturing processes where a compromise between strength and ductility is required.
