Post-forging operations for Hastelloy C276 include heat treatment (such as annealing) to relieve stresses and improve mechanical properties, followed by surface finishing (like pickling or grinding) to remove oxides and enhance corrosion resistance.
To determine if Hastelloy C276 forgings meet your needs, assess their chemical composition, mechanical properties, and resistance to corrosion under the specific conditions of your application. Conduct testing such as tensile, impact, and corrosion tests for confirmation.
The ideal temperature range for forging Hastelloy C276 is between 1,900°F and 2,200°F (1,038°C to 1,204°C). This ensures proper deformation without compromising material properties.
Hastelloy C276 Forgings find extensive use in chemical processing equipment like reactors, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels that come into contact with strong oxidizers and reducers. They play a crucial role in pollution control, waste treatment systems, and nuclear reactors due to their exceptional corrosion resistance. The alloy’s ability to resist chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking makes it particularly suitable for marine applications, including seawater handling and desalination plants. Furthermore, Hastelloy C276 is utilized in aerospace and power generation for components that are exposed to harsh conditions.
