Carbon Steel EN-1A is a low-carbon free-machining steel, typically composed of 0.07–0.15% carbon, 0.90–1.30% manganese, and 0.20–0.30% sulfur. The elevated sulfur content boosts machinability but can compromise weldability. It boasts a tensile strength ranging from 370–430 MPa and achieves an excellent surface finish post-machining. EN-1A is generally supplied in a cold drawn or bright bar condition. While it’s not the best choice for heat treatment or welding applications, it shines in turned or milled components where precision and high-speed machining are crucial.
