Stainless Steel 347 Forgings are chiefly iron with 17-19% chromium and 9-13% nickel, supplemented with niobium or tantalum for increased grain stability. This composition contains superior resistance to corrosion and heat strength. Mechanically, Stainless Steel 347 possesses tensile strength of approximately 520-750 MPa with satisfactory elongation of 30-40%, and hardness of around 70 HRB. It possesses toughness and strength of structure at high temperatures and is therefore suitable for heavy-duty purposes involving resistance to oxidation and intergranular corrosion.

Stainless Steel 347 forgings have limitations in extreme temperatures above 1600°F (870°C), susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking in chloride environments, and reduced formability compared to some other stainless steel grades.
The forging temperature range for Stainless Steel 347 is typically between 2100°F (1149°C) and 2200°F (1204°C). It ensures optimal grain structure and mechanical properties for high-performance applications.
Stainless Steel 347 forgings require minimal maintenance, primarily periodic cleaning to remove contaminants. Regular inspection for corrosion or wear is recommended, along with ensuring proper lubrication for moving parts in harsh environments.
Stainless Steel 347 Forgings are extensively utilized in industries that require superior strength and resistance to corrosion, particularly at elevated temperatures. Typical uses involve chemical process equipment, aerospace hardware, power generation turbine components, and heat exchangers. They play a critical role in the production of flanges, fittings, valves, and pressure vessels that are to be used in aggressive conditions. Their oxidation and intergranular corrosion resistance makes them ideal for furnace components, exhaust manifolds, and petrochemical facilities. Rupal Metals’ Stainless Steel 347 Forgings provide strength, safety, and long life in the demanding industrial processes of various industries.
