317L Stainless Steel Round Bars and Rods are mainly alloyed with iron, chromium (18-20%), nickel (11-15%), and molybdenum (3-4%), to increase corrosion resistance, particularly against chlorides. The ‘L’ signifies low carbon content (max 0.03%), which minimizes carbide precipitation and is better suited for weldability. Mechanically, 317L has very good tensile strength (around 515 MPa) and yield strength (around 205 MPa), with fair elongation (35%). Its higher toughness and resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting allow it to be used in aggressive chemical environments and high-temperature conditions.
